Dummy ticket for a Japan short-term stay visa, delivered in 30 minutes.
A reservation that matches your Schedule of Stay day by day, because Japan reads the itinerary and the flights as one document.
Japan is the one destination where the itinerary is a named form, not a supporting document. The Schedule of Stay asks for a day-by-day account of where you will be and where you will sleep, and the officer reads it against your flight reservation and hotel bookings. It is the clearest case on this site where the ticket and the form have to be built together.
The Schedule of Stay is the document that decides the file
The form lists each date of the stay with the activity, the accommodation, and the contact details for that accommodation. It has to cover every day between arrival and departure, including travel days. Gaps are read as an incomplete plan, and a plan that does not match the hotel bookings is worse than no plan at all.
What belongs on a day-by-day itinerary
For each date: the city, the main activity, and the hotel with its address and telephone number. If you are moving between cities, the travel itself is the activity for that day. If you are visiting a specific attraction, name it — a schedule that says "sightseeing" every day looks like it was written to fill a form rather than to describe a trip.
Flight and hotel reservations the embassy expects
Japan asks for a flight reservation rather than a purchased ticket, together with hotel bookings covering the stay. The arrival flight should land on the first date of the schedule, and the departure flight should leave on the last. Internal travel between Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka does not need separate bookings, but it should appear in the schedule.
Documents Indian applicants submit
- Visa application form, completed and signed.
- Passport and a recent photograph to the stated specification.
- Schedule of Stay, day by day.
- Flight reservation and hotel bookings.
- Bank statement and income evidence.
- Employment certificate, or business registration for the self-employed.
- Any previous Japanese visas, if you have travelled before.
Processing, collection and the fee waiver
Applications are lodged through the embassy or its designated application centre, usually in person, and passports are collected after the decision. Japan does not currently charge Indian passport holders a visa fee for short-term visits, but confirm this at the time you apply, since fee arrangements are reviewed periodically. Processing is typically a working week or so, longer in peak seasons.
Arrival: disembarkation card and customs
On arrival you complete a disembarkation card with your flight number and accommodation, and a customs declaration. Both ask for details that are already on the reservation and the Schedule of Stay, which is another reason to keep them accessible offline rather than in an email thread.
